1997 caravan stalls

Hello. This forum is wonderful. I am in desperate need. I just got a 1997 caravan se (3.0) about 3 months ago. In the past week it has started to die while driving down the road. It seems to happen more often when i let off the gas. I will let off and go to accelerate and nothing then the oil light comes on and it dies. Sometimes it does it while i am stopping. I just replaced a 1991 plymouth voyager with this van which also had the same darn problem. I am hoping it is something as simple as changing the fuel filter? Hopefully not the pump? When i try to start it after it dies, it acts like it wants to start but doesnt. Kinda like its runnin outta gas. Can some1 please help! I am 8 m pregnant and i want to make sure i dont spend 500 paying for some1 to replace the fuel pump if i dont have to! Any suggestions are greatly apprecitiated.

The first thing your going to have to do is test for fuel pressure, spark and injector pulse at the time it is dead to determine what is happening. If you don't have the tools to do that, then your going to have to aquire them somehow. If fuel pressure turns out to be the problem, yes, you can try a filter first, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high. The pump is the more likely culprit.
