Possible Strut noise?

I have a friend who owns a 1998 Pontiac Gran Prix with 40000 miles on it. She is conplaining about an intermittant noise (metalic bang) on the right front side of the engine compartment. I put the car up on a lift and can see no CV joint grease or any oil leaking out of the strut. The struts seem to be working properly on rough roads etc. It seemed that I had heard that when struts get some age on them, they can develop a noise like this, but I forgot the source. I looked at the steering rod ends too, and they dont seem to have any excess wear in them...Any Ideas? ( she said she is usually making a low speed turn when this happens)

Were you able to duplicate the sound? If so can you give a better description of it?

could be a lower ball joint, or like you said a strut.
