1987 Accord Seat Belt Problems

My driver side seat belt (shoulder belt part) just stopped retracting one day, so dumb me tried fixing it myself without a manual or any knowledge. I took off the door panel and started fiddling with the "retraction assembly". I got the belt to retract by manually widing it with the white gear thing, but now it's stuck and I can't pull it out. I went to the junk yard today and found a replacement, however, once I disconnected it, both the shoulder and lap belt got stuck and stopped retracting and unwinding. Any advice about installing this new seat belt assembly or fixing my old one?

Before you go too much further....

I had a 86 Accord Hatchback, and developed a seat belt problem. Turns out there was a service bulletin issued for the problem, and the Honda dealer near me replaced it for free.

You may want to research this a bit, to see if your problem falls under that same category.

Good luck!
