2003 Buick Century Transmission Problem

I just bought this car in April. It has 31000 miles on it now. Problem is intermittant. When car is parked and I start it the gear shift will stick in Park. If I fiddle around with it and press the brake peddle a few times it will finally release and work normally. It has done this 4 or 5 times now. I had it into the dealer I bought it from today and they said they could get it to do it. But you might be able to guess what happened when I left the garage and stopped at Walmart on the way home. I came out and started it and sure enough it stuck again. I would have called the dealer and had them tow it in but I had just bought some groceries and had to get them home so I played with it again and got it to work and drove on home.
Does anyone have any clues as to what is causing this problem. I had some guys tell me it was an interlock problem. Any suggestions out there?

First eliminate any possibility that your on a hill at the time. The weight of the car will make it bind but what you have is more likely a problem with the lock out switch or solenoid. The brake light switch triggers a release solenoid to the shifter. This is probably where the problem is.

Did the dealer check for Body control module codes.B 2707 and B 2708 are for the brake to shift relay.Your stoplight switch could be adjusted improperly, the BCM could be faulty, the relay faulty or most likely the shift lock actuator is faulty. It could also be a wiring issue but these are things they need to check.I would not accept that they couldn't get it to do it because you can't get it to do it either it just happens on it's own.I would tell them to at least check the components if they can't duplicate the problem.Make sure you get a copy of the bill and keep it for future use if you go out of warranty before they get it repaired properly.
