nissan sentra 98 gxe 5 speed manual

My girl friends car, when she shifts from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th, as she lets off the clutch and presses the gas in sometimes does not accelerate and acts like it is in neutral. is it a problem with the clutch or the transmission? i have heard both ideas.

The clutch is most likely wasted and should be replaced with a clutch kit and the flywheel refinished or replaced if needed. You didn't mention mileage but your description certainly sounds like a failed clutch.Make sure there is no oil getting on the clutch disc,if it has a one piece rear main seal I would replace it while I was in there.

Thanks For The Info. The Milage Is Just Over 80,000 Miles Also If I Try And Take It Over 65 Mph It Just Won't Go The Over Drive Won't Engage.

Can't say for certain on Nissans, but 80,000 seems a little low for a wasted clutch (although I agree with the diagnosis). Could be in addition to a clutch replacement she may need to work on her manual trans driving technique. Just a thought.

Well To Be Honest Nothing Was Wrong With The Car Untill I Started To Drive It And I Am New To Manuals So I Am The One To Work On My Technique. Tough For Me To Admit But Hey What Are Ya Gonna Do.
