nissan sentra 98 gxe 5 speed manual

My girl friends car, when she shifts from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th, as she lets off the clutch and presses the gas in sometimes does not accelerate and acts like it is in neutral. is it a problem with the clutch or the transmission? i have heard both ideas.

The clutch is most likely wasted and should be replaced with a clutch kit and the flywheel refinished or replaced if needed.You didn't mention mileage but your description certainly sounds like a failed clutch.Make sure there is no oil getting on the clutch disc,if it has a one piece rear main seal I would replace it while I was in there.

Thanks For The Info. The Milage Is Just Over 80,000 Miles Also If I Try And Take It Over 65 Mph It Just Won't Go The Over Drive Won't Engage.

Can't say for certain on Nissans, but 80,000 seems a little low for a wasted clutch (although I agree with the diagnosis). Could be in addition to a clutch replacement she may need to work on her manual trans driving technique. Just a thought.

Well To Be Honest Nothing Was Wrong With The Car Untill I Started To Drive It And I Am New To Manuals So I Am The One To Work On My Technique. Tough For Me To Admit But Hey What Are Ya Gonna Do.

98 neon ac prob...again

Long story short. Took car in to shop to have freon added. They checked it out and added freon. Claimed no leaks. 1month later it blows warm air. Took it to a different shop and here is where it gets weird. This mechanic said the computer wasnt telling the compressor to kick on. He pulled the (relay switch??) and jumped it with a wire. The ac started blowing cold air. He says the car has to go to a dealership to have the computer reset and then he can fix the leak and recharge. I asked him how the computer could get messed up and he said he didnt know ..it just happens sometimes. He says there was a couple of service bullitens about the computer being reset. Does this make sense to anyone?? My thinking was that if he pulled the relay and was able to jump it shouldnt it just be a bad relay? Any thoughts would be appreciated before more money is spent on this car. I am being cautous about this because I feel I got ripped off at the first place. They should have found the leak instead of just refilling it. Lesson learned there. The relay switch I am refering to is located in the engine compartment and is about 1 in square (black) and plugs in just like a fuse.Read More

cooling system flush

The time has come to flush my 2003 Toyota Matrix cooling system as per maintenance schedule 30k miles. Dealer wants 100 bucks to do this. I guess they have a machine they power flush with. I want to do it myself the old fashioned way drain. Put in water drain again, several times.(heater on).Is this good enough? I don't want to screw up my warranty.I will buy the coolant from them no problem.Read More
