Exclamation 97 Buick Skylark 3100 alternator remove and replace HELP!!

does anyone know how to releive the tension on the serpentine belt to get it off of the alternator i cant seem to find the tensioner if anyone can help me please email me at jselzer@fuse.net

special tool to R&R belt

If you don't have the tool you can use a box end wrench and small pipe to loosen tension on belt. Usually the top of the belt is running on the tensioner pulley. Their is usually a small diagram on the front support that will show a belt configuration for belt installation and will identify the location of the tensioner.

3.1 should have a 3/8" square drive in the body of the tensioner. Should also be plenty of room to put a regular 3/8 ratchet in there. No special tools required on this one. It just occured to me also - on the Skylark, you may need to remove the upper motor mount to get at it.
