Lifetime Fuel Filter
Hi,
I have a '97 Honda Accord and the dealer said that my fuel filter never needs to get changed because it is a Lifetime Fuel Filter. Can this be true?? Anyone ever hear of this before???
Thanks,
greenda4

several manufacturers are installing the filter with the fuel pump as an assembly and a filter isn't usually even available seperately in most of these cases and you are not required to change it as a maintence item.
if you read you owners manual it will probably tell you if the fuel filter needs changed and at what intervals or may say does not need changed.

Skeptical
I am also skeptical about no fuel filter change. My Toyota has the same setup and I dont like it.I guess only time will tell.In the old days before fuel injection when you could buy those plastic see thru filters I recall seeing lots of what looked like sand in them.
Maybe they have cleaned up the fuel better I dont know however I do buy fuel at newer stations some of the older ones I dont trust there tanks.

It is my opinion that there are NO lifetime fuel filters. The only ones that can be used for an extended time are the ones inside of the fuel tank. Any filter mounted externally should be changed regularly.

Thats our point
With cars not having replacable filters were does all the dirt go?What the heck kind of super fuel/dirt seperator system do we have?At some point the pickup screen must become plugged maybe 75 thousand miles I dont know.
Has anyone ever seen the high tech non replaceable filter?

Toyota never had a recommended interval for changing any EFI filters weather internal or external.
Over normal use they don't clog, only when subject to some contaminate being introduced. Number of years ago we had a rash of waste paint showing up in the fuel delivery chain. That did the filters in including the sock in the tank.
I have seen many well over 200K still with the orginal filter. We don't even stock the filters.

Lifetime Fuel Filter
I called AutoZone and they sell a Fuel Filter for my '97 Accord. I looked in my owners manual and it does not mention anything about when to replace the fuel filter. So what do I do?? I have 111K miles on my Accord. Thanks for the replies guys!!
