92 Camero tach problem

undefinedundefined I've got a 92 Camero RS, 305 v8, that is having problems with the tach, or maybe engine. When the tach reaches about 2000 rpm it starts jumping forward and backwards. The engine has a very muted pop noise. The temp gage is cool, the battery is right on the money and the oil gage is where it should be. I try to explain this to a mechanic and they just look at me strange. I seem to loose a little power when that happens.

Things to check are fuel pressure with a guage, clogged convertor, faulty secondary ignition components(wires, plugs etc)air filter.Your description sounds like it indicates an intake backfire occuring.

What I've checked

I've had a major tune-up, since we found mice had eaten the wiring. The air filter is clean so I guess what's left is to check the fuel pressure and the converter. It usually happens after the car has been running for a while.
Thanks for the info. I'll let you know if it works.
