#3 missing

I have a 96 ford contour 2.6.The #3 piston is missing.......the timing is right. Could the fuel reg. be the cause?

No, not really. It's something related to that cylinder only. The likely suspect is the plug wire but I would change the plugs and wires. Also the dist cap and rotor if it's not a DIS system.

Could also be a defective fuel injector on that cylinder. You need to get a proper diagnosis to find out what's going on.

A tune up is maintanence. If it's due (over 60K) go ahead and do it. Chances are, it will correct your problem. Injecter problems are pretty rare but possible. If it's overdue for ignition, you'll have to do it anyway.
