I have a 79 chevy malibu and the speedometer doesn't work .

The cable is attached but the needle doesn't move.
How can i test this to find what is wrong, can i attach a drill to the trans end to see if the needle moves at the gauge?

Is there a way also to re-calibrate the speedo from 85 to a higher number say like 120?

You don't need a drill just twist the cable quickly between your fingers while a freind watches the speedo. If it works you most likely have an apple cored speedo gear in the trans. If it doesn't work remove the cable to see if it's broken or the end is stripped. If the cable is ok the speedo head is bad.
