Amps/voltage on a cigarette lighter

What is the normal amps and voltage for a cigarette ligher in a car/truck? Am I safe hooking up a new lighter to any power source in my truck? I have a truck/ambulance that I want to add a power source for my cell. It has 2 batteries and I don't know if there are several ampages in there or what. Help?

Your current lighter is probably fused with a 15 amp fuse. If you are going to add a socket strictly for charging a cell phone, I would tap it off of the same fuse. A cell phone charger draws less than 1 amp so it should be no problem.
The voltage is the standard battery voltage, usually called 12 volts although it is a bit higher in real life.
