Question '91 Corvette

This 91 Vette starts OK, runs OK for about 5 minutes, then stalls and will not start unless the gas pedal is floored. It will then only run at high rpm and emits black smoke. As soon as the rpm's are permitted to drop, it stalls again and will only start with full depression of the gas pedal. Let the car sit for about an hour, the whole affair repeats. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Walter

basic testing...

...at this point. how's the air filter? check the fuel pressure next...then the coolant sensor. you might also try unplugging the mass air flow sensor and starting it.

It's pretty obvious that your getting flooded with fuel. As Carguyinva noted, there are many possibilities that can cause that. He gave you just a couple of them.

I know they have a couple of relays associated with the MAF and they have a lot of problems with them. They're located on the firewall behind the left front tire.
