97 Mustang GT Odometer trouble

Greetings all,

I have a 1997 Mustang GT that has sat in my driveway for about a year and a half. I just recently got the registration renewed and the brake pads changed, and even drove it to work one day to make sure it still ran ok so that I can sell it. My problem is that I noticed the odometer doesn't appear to be working anymore. My only guess would be maybe a wire rusted out somewhere or something? I looked in my Haynes manual and saw nothing about odometer, so I thought I would check and see if anyone is familiar with what I could possibly check for myself? I hate to pay $75 labor to have someone change a cable if I can do it myself. The speedometer works fine.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

no cable...

...in one that new. it's all electronic...most likely the stepper motor that turns the odometer (if it's not a digital display). the contacts tarnish when they sit for long periods. you may be able to replace the motor, check with a dealer

Thanks for the quick response. I guess I will have to get a shop involved after all.

Thanks again
