cabin air filters

Many cars to have 'cabin air filter'. I'm wondering if i can just remove mine.
2-3 times a year to replace at $30-$40 a pop seems a bit much to me.
Opinions?
Thanks

same problem

I have the same problem Toyota saw it fit to install cabin air filters at 20 bucks a pop for something that looks like it is worth 5 bucks max.Have you been looking around for maybe a cleanable one?I would not leave it out look at all the stuff it filters that would go into your heater box.
I have also heard of people making there own from filters they buy at Home Depot and just using the old frame.
There should be a washable one out there.

Thanks for your reply. My ford taurus is also a pain to replace(certainly not one of Fords better ideas) Little critters like to nest in there to.
