My Corolla is dead in another State S.O.S.
I was visiting my girl in Boston, i live in Nh, and my car died while i was on my way home. im in a desperate situation with it getting towed, i dont have the money! It just simply shut off at a stopsign, and wouldnt turnover, battery isnt dead, we went back and charged it, still wont work. S.O.S.

Can't say w/o more info
Hello:
Hard to say, could be electronic or fuel-related. Check fuses, battery ground, etc. If you're not able to discern these items someone who is knowledgeable will need to before it will crank. May involve a tow to a garage for a diagnosis.
Had a 92 with same symptom. Got lucky and found a dead 100 amp (yep, 100 amp) fuse on battery cable. $10 replacement from dealer since size is uncommon.
Good luck!

hmmmm
well, i heard many things from many people, but most iv heard was about fuel, maybe bad gas, or a fuelpump failure...bad jets ect.ect.
o i forgot to mention, when it happened the first time(shutting off) the engine rumbled really low and shut off. then i started it again, and it rumbled lower and shut off again. maybe that helps.

Again
What year and what engine?
Not to be pissy, but the Corolla's had a lot of different combo's
A year would help
An engine # (4A-F, 4A-FE), would be better
Not trying to be a smart ***, it really does make a diff

you say...
...that it shut off and now won't turn over. what exactly does it do...or not do??
1. cranks (engine spins when the key is turned to the start position) but won't start
2. won't crank (doesn't turn over at all)
we need to know exactly what it's not doing here to be of real help...otherwise you just get a million suggestions and confusion with it.
tell us this first and let's go from there...

It's gonna cost at least 400 to do a timing job, I would estimate, but if your belt went, then your engine is toast. I believe those are interference engines in the corollas, so when the belt goes, the valves and pistons slam into each other. It would cause quite a shudder in the driveline. You need to give everyone more info thought, year, mileage, etc. Is it a regular corolla or a gts? The more info, the better.. What exactly can you remember happening when it quit on you? Did you smell or hear anything unordinary?

sounds like...
this may be beyond your ability to determine...perhaps it's time to get it hauled to someone for a definitive diagnosis.
both previous posters may be correct...you need the opinion of a pro
sorry, dude...sometimes you're windshield...sometimes the bug

things to look at
To see if it is the timing belt with out tearing into the engine you can remove were you cap were you put the oil into you should see a camshaft.Use a flashlight if you have to.
Have a friend try to start and watch to see if cam moves.Or you can take cap off distributer and see if it goes around when you try to start.
Good news is most toyota engines will not self destruct when belt breaks.

Yep, the previous poster was right, corolla engines are not interference engines according to the following link : http://gates.com/downloads/download_...older=brochure
That link is a gates online catalog, tells you what engines are and are not interference motors and also tells you the recommended replacement period for belts. Quite a helpful resource.
