Dismantling a door

The driver's side window in my 1995 Ford Windstar has stopped working for no apparent reason. The switch clicks and the lights dim. I've tried banging on the door to get it started, but I think I need to take apart the door to get at the motor system. However, the last time I took apart a car door, I bent the lock shaft. How do you take apart the door, and how do you fix the window? It's stuck open!

Either the window is binding or you have a weak motor. Try pulling up on the window while a helper operates the switch, if you are able to get a grip on the window. You should find good instructions for taking the door apart in a Haynes or Chiltons manual.

To get the panel off; first pull the cover off from around the inside release handle (it just snaps on). Then lift the switch assembly out (snaps out also). There will be one or two screws (if I remember right, one)under there to remove. Then remove the two screws at the bottom of the panel. Now lift straight up on the panel to remove it.
