97 ford ranger transmission
Just wondering if anyone has experince rebuilding a 5r55e transmission in a 2wd ranger. I picked up this truck dirt cheap($100) and the trans is 'blown'. The story behind it is that the lady was stuck in the snow, kept spinning the tires trying to get out of it, and when she finally did, the trans wouldnt shift anymore. The fluid is burnt badly.
I havent confirmed that it is blown yet as it is blocked in a lot by a bunch of other cars. I plan on dropping the pan first and seeing how much debris is in there. That'll be next week sometime. But for now, I'd like to see what my options are. I am no stranger to transmission rebuilds, but I have never touched this trans before. If anyone has done this, please let me know if I should bother with trying a rebuild, or just put in a reman. I was quoted $1100 for a complete rebuild and found a reman for about $650.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for rebuild manuals for this transmission. I found one at J.C. Whitney, but have no experience with their manuals. Anyone have experience with them? Or know of other places to get them?
