2000 Monte Carlo SS-Fan staying on after car shut off
Hello All again,
The fan at the front of the car is staying on after the car is shut down and doesn't seem to want to shut off plus the heat gauge is not working anymore and the alternator is whining plus seems to be straining when all power is applied,( new battery). Do you think there are a whole lot of issues? does anyone have any ideas--Great time to happen, right in the middle of a snow storm!!
This all happened in the last hour. Car has 128000k on it and has been pampered!
Time to have a beer and get everyone opinion on what to do and thanks allBeer 4U2

fan is staying on because either the temp sensor is telling the computor that your engine is hot or the relay has burned points causing it to stick, check the coolant level in the radiator and the over flow tank both. a whine from the alternator at low level is fairly common on alternators, if it is noticable then it is usually a sign that the diodes are starting to go out in the alternator, or bearings are about to go. most people don't know that low coolant levels will usually keep the temp sender from working properly.

Front fan is squeeling for about 10 seconds at warm up, thought it was the alternator sounds like it's seething up, would you replace now or wait till it goes. I vote for now??
Can you tell me the proceedure to take it out, it sounded like the driver side fan as there are 2.

Radiator fans will not turn off
Monte carlo 2000--radiator fans will not turn off after stopping, I need to turn the key to before ignition a couple of times to turn the fans off. One fan is squeeling about 10 seconds at start up.The rad is very cool and there is no reason for the fans to be on. Maybe the fans being on is the reason the temp gauge does not register any temperature??
Possibly this is the reason I thought it was the alternator an now possibly the battery is in need of charging?
The voltage gauge is fluxuating now when all electrical stuff is on.
Anyone know how to proceed??
Thanks
Randy

Hello All,
Turns out,I still have a fan problem with the squeeling possibly but there was a code problem also which after being reset now the fans do not come on and I am waiting to see if the heat gauge works. Probably have to replace the driver side fan as it squeels for about 10-30 seconds when it starts up but There are 2--Question--What happens if 1 seizes up--does the other stop too or keep running? Anyone know!
Thx
Randy

I'm not sure from reading your posts if you still have a problem or not. But if the cooling fans continue to stay running after the vehicle is shut off then it's most likely a faulty body control module (BCM).

Hi,
I have a scanner and I can turn it off but it comes back on. Do I have to change the Thermostat and a sensor?. Howmuch does a BCM cost.
Thx

What comes back on?
What code?
If the thermostat has been replaced, I would look at the engine temp sensor.
I doubt a module is bad, and those things are $$$$$$$$$$$$.

Hi,
Every couple of days the same thing happens, I have not replaced the thermostat but it works just fine, must be a sensor of a sort & where would it be located.

Replace your coolant temp sensor. Looks like this:
Usually it's on the side of the motor on the steel coolant line. Takes about 10 mins to change. I'll try and find a diagram.
Just read it's under your thermostat housing.
This site is really really getting me mad. Keep getting blank pages.
