tranny pblm - electrical or mechanical?

Buddy of mine has a 99 Dodge Ram 3500, dually, with a Banks kit (turbo and jake brake), and a bored out tranny for towing. On his last trip camping, the jake brake stopped working, and then he lost 1st gear, over drive, and reverse out of the transmission. There's an ongoing "debate" about whether this is a mechanical or electrical problem. We've put a DB2 diagnostic tool on the truck, and it's come back normal.

Any ideas, or speculations????

sounds as if something is broken internally in the transmission I would doubt it would be an electrical problem.

Just a follow - up. We took the truck to a trusted transmission man, and he found that when the banks kit etc was installed, some springs were re-attached backwards or incorrectly. We were told it caused more pressure in the transmission. So every time we put it into gear it was like we were resting our foot on the gas pedal, and it slammed into gear. End result was one of the internally gears was actually shattered into pieces.
