Grand Prix Problem

i posted along time ago about my car, and it is running fine now. i have another problem, i have a 94 pontiac grand prix se, evry once in awhile my security light stays on then goes out when i shut off the car but then maybe a day or two later after i start it and shut it off it won't start, i have juice everything comes on from the lights to radio but it won't even turn over, it's as if there is no battery in it, after i leave it sit for maybe 20 to 30 mins it will start, i have the problem only when i notice the security light stays on then goes out when i shut it off, i tried the diagnostic check at auto zone but they said i need a new black box thing because the thing won't stay in the prongs, i know those are expensive, so can anyone help on what might be the problem, i even wipe my key off good and still nothing. Thank you

Does the ignition key have a little black chip mounted in it? If so, it could be failing to make proper contact in the ignition switch. The chip is actually a small resistor. I had that problem with moisture in the switch or on the key. When the security code sets, you have to wait for it to time out. If you have a spare ignition key, you might give it a try.

If you don't have an extra key with the chip in it take yours to the dealer and ask them to test it for you.If it's not the key you most likely have a broken white wire up near the lock cylinder and would need to replace the lock cylinder and key.

Grand Prix Problem

thank you for the info, you are correct that the key has the silver thing in it, my husband told me that it probably has somethig to do with the gear shift, lol i'm not that stupid, he said it could be because the orange indicator doesn't move with the shifter to let you know what gear it's in and is hard to go into reverse, he tells me not to keep trying to get the indicator to move because i'll break the shifter, but anyway i'll go to a dealer and get another key $25 i called to get a spare before and they said it would cost $25, again thank you.

Don't just buy a key have them test it to see if it's faulty. If the key tests good the lock cylinder may be bad and you will need another new key to match the cylinder.
