Stubborn stuck Roller Lifter in Mustang 5.0

I have a stuck hydraulic roller lifter in my 1988 Ford Mustang GT. I've attempted to pull it out by hand, with a slide hammer, and now with a vice-grips. The little sucker is stuck. I think it's mushroomed out on the bottom. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for my not-so little dilemma.

roller lifters...

don't mushroom as they don't have a foot like a conventional hydraulic lifter. try using some gum cutter (carb spray). knock the lifter back down and spray it all over...then try pulling it out...up and down repeatedly until the built up varnish dissolves and it will come right out.

1 question tho...you did remove the retainer that keeps the lifter from spinning, didn't you? if not, it must be removed first

Stuck Lifter

I haven't used any carb spray, but I sprayed a little WD40 all around and on it. I've even taken the lifter apart, as it's stuck in the valley, but that doesn't even seem to help. Can I pull the camshaft out with the lifter still stuck in place or wil it damage the camshaft?
