fuel pump 97 JIMMY

I have a 97 Jimmy 4.3 4x4. Friday I had the transmision flushed and filter changed. While filling the tranny the tech overflowed tranny bad , fluid everywhere. Since leaving the shop yesterday the fuel pump has decided to work sometimes and not others. I turn the key it will start 3 or 4 times in a row. Then the next time I turn the key the pump doesn't start. I think tranny incident is coincidence but not sure. Does this sound like the pump? I hope not the part cost $300. Is it possible the relay is working sometimes and not others. HELP

Next time it's a no-start, try thumping hard on the bottom of the tank; this will sometimes cause a failing pump to decide to work and give you a clue if it might be the pump itself.
