Question Alternative ridge reaming method?

Does anyone know of an alternative method for removing the ridge in a cylinder when a ridge reamer is not available? Is it absolutely necessary to remove the ridge? What are the chances of new piston rings breaking if the ridge is not removed? Any ideas are appreciated.

ridge reaming...

how much ridge is there? enough to catch your finger nail on? if there is, you're wasting your time by just sticking new rings on old pistons...yes, you wil probably break new rings and you may well ruin the pistons when taking it apart. take the block to a machine shop and have it's not that expensive and neither are new stock style pistons. it's way more worth your time and you'll end up with a much better finished product for a budget rebuild.
