Question 89 Cierra a/c compressor problems

A/C stopped working, compressor was not engaging. Replaced compressor, still not engaging. (This system has been converted to R134a.)
What next? What keeps compressor from kicking on when a/c switch is engaged? Fuses are fine.

Let's back up a little here. When a compressor doesn't engage, the compressor itself is about the least likey cause. There are many things that can cause that uncluding low refrigerant due to a leak or electrical problem in numerous places throughout the control system. It has controls, switches, relays, coils, the PCM and all the related wiring. Your best bet would be to take it to an reputable shop for a diagnostic and/or leak test. This usually costs under $50.
