98 Ford Explorer door locks
My 98 Ford Explorer driver door will not unlock. Key won't unlock it. unlock button won't, but it tries. howcan I get this door opened any ideas? I can't check the fuses without the door unlocked where i can open it. I heard it may have an actuator that is bad.but shouldn't the key unlock it. what could cause the lock to frezze up. could it be the actuator.any ideas apreciated.
thanks............ climbing over arm rest is getting old. I work longer hours so there is no garage open when i get off. thanks agian

You've got a pretty serious problem. The latch/lock mechanism is stuck and in order to access it to free it up, you'll have to remove the door panel which has to be done with the door open. You may have to do a little damage to pull the door panel away at the top so you can try to get something in through the opening to get that lock unjammed.

I got the door panel off. I can reach in there and feel the latch,is there a way to free it up or trip the lock? What I can feel I can pull up only a little its where the door handle rod goes to .( the inside handle) . but it still wont trip or unlock.First time i've ever seen this happen.

Your just going to have to examine it closely while trying to unlock it so you can see what is binding and why. The linkage could be caught behind something or the lock actuater may be jammed or it may be the latch itself. Try unhooking the linkage so you can attempt to move the levers manually to get it unlocked.
