Floor Jack repair

I have a 2 1/2 ton floor jack that does not work properly.

When you pump it to go up, the arm goes up some, but comes right back
down. If I pull the arm up, it will support weight, but the arm will not go up
when pumping it.

I have check the oil level and I have tried to bleed the pump of any air?

Any ideas?

Try pulling the jack up then jack a car up with another jack and let it down on yours. If it holds the metal valve that opens & closes when you turn the handle is holding. My guess is an internal o-ring etc. has hardened or shrunk.

I had an old sears floor jack that worked but leaked fluid all over the floor. No one could get parts & sears wanted more than the jack is worth for a new cylinder. I was ready to throw it away. I rellaced all the fluid with Bars Leaks Jack Oil with Stop Leak. It now works fine and is dry as a bone. So how ever long it will last from here I am happy.

You might want to try some. Even if it does not work you don't have much to loose.
