1989 Nissan pick up wont start

1989 nissan pickup wont start. v-6, got spark and getting gas.
drove thru water stalled, about 1 hour later started, drove 2 miles stalled again. never restarted. rolls over, back fires thru carb (throttle body) sometimes starts fire. worse when pedal is floored.
ANY suggestions.
Timing belt is good, spark to the plugs, fuel filter bypassed to check

Pretty good chance you got some water where it shouldn't be. I would start under the distributor cap. After that start checking the various connectors under the hood one at a time. Get a spray can of electrical contact cleaner to clean/dry.
