Catalytic converter

My Car: 94' Acura Integra 1.8l DOHC 5spd Manual

I am getting a completly new exhaust system (head,Catconverter,cat-back), while going over the current stock system I noticed everything was welded. On my friends acura his isn't welded and infact the Catalytic converter has bolt on sections for both sides of it. since mine was welded for reasons unknown I have to get the ENTIRE Setup..My Question was..How long do Catalytic Converters usually last? Someone offered to sell me there used catalytic converter.

Or Should I just get a new Catalytic Converter? and what prices should I Expect to see?

That system can be separated behind the cat for replacement, even if it has to be cut.
