Camshaft sensor

I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager with about 135K. I was hearing a strange sound on accelaration from the engine area. It wasn't a knocking but a lighter rythmic sound. I attached an OBDII reader. It gave me a message of "camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction". I have no idea what this is. Can anybody tell me how to resolve the problem?
