need to know how to change ignition switch??? well i found out how to change switch and found out it was not the switch. There are some teeth looking piece inside that makes it turn on and off, well it looks like it is broken in half 
does anyone know if i need to just replace that piece or the whole streeing column? The reason for all this is because the car turns on but does not turn off, it stays onand I need to disconnect the battery to turn it of.

Price a used column it is much easier to change.There are lots of little parts inside a column and some special tools that may make just changing the gear not worthwile to you.At this point there may be something else that caused it to break and if you miss it you start over again.
