clutch not working right on toyota celica

I have a 1997 toyota celica,2 door standard shift 5 speed 1.6 liter with a 4cyl.engine.The problem is sometimes the clutch works & sometimes it doesn't.at times it hangs up in gear & clutch drops to the floor then pumps up & works well for just a little while but then hangs up in gear again.{ feels like a brake that has a problem in the master cylinder but it"s the clutch} I'd like to know what the problem is.I can't afford to take it to the garage.Any help would be appriciated. Thanks ANN2

Check the fluid, if it's ok then it sounds like the clutch master is NG. It's bypassing at times and makes no pressure, Thats if it goes to the floor with no resistance and then the next time it works fine.

Seen it happen on Toyota's. If it's spongy and you can pump up the pedal its air and proberly a leak some where.
