92 escort is UNdrivable

Hi, my car is undrivable.
I took my car to the mechanic about 1.5 months ago to do the pressure test for the coolant, but they didn't find the leak.
Now, when I drive for 5 min. HOLY smoke!! the car is all fogged up! and the heat is really high! Could that be the leak from a heater or something???
Please somebody help me... I'm desparate!

You have a leaky heater core. You should also notice the sweet smell of the antifreeze and dampness of the carpet on the front passenger side floorboard. You'll have to replace the heater core.

A good and cheap temporary(or permanent) solution is bypass the heater core until you fix it or pay someone several hundred dollars to do this PITA job. You'll just have to live without any heat and heated defrost. At least it will get you back on the road.

That'll work but...
You wouldn't be fogging up your interior if you hadn't turned on the defrost/heat meaning you'll need it again soon...it's only gonna get colder
I'm thinking safety here

Sounds like you could also use a different mechanic. No excuse for not finding that.

Unfortunately, this is a major job, and paying someone to do it will cost more than the car's value
http://www.50stangs.com/techarticles/heatercore.html

that's not on an escort, but it details how much work is involved and has pictures too.

if you're handy with a wrench and have a lot of patience, and live where it gets real cold, I'd brave fixing it yourself.

as mentioned, if this is your sole means for transportation, you can simply bypass this heatercore by connecting the two heater hoses that go into the firewall to each other. This requires a simple plastic connector from autozone and two clamps. Get some window x antidefrost stuff and a heavy jacket, it's gonna be a COLD ride, but you'll be on the road without any other consequences. Best of luck, this happens to everybody with older cars.

Now that the mechanic has my car...it turned out to be a Mazda..

Yesterday, I finally see the leak! all my carpets are wet with green liquid coolant! yikes!

It was much more work for mazda than a ford he said. but unfortunately i had to get it done anyways.

Now..another problem comes up -- well, this has been for awhile.. the car is kindda shaky when I add gas, wut could possibly causes that?? I don't understand.

and I have to go to the ford dealer to buy a "something"cap.. i forgot the name, but it's for the juice ... :P

anyways, I'll write again when i get my car back!

good weekend guys!

By the way, wut could possibly cause the shaking/jerking when stepping on the gas? (around 50km/h).

brake's fine, but tires are not... it gonna cost me $1000+ ?

try and be more descriptives. tires won't cost a grand.

btw, my bro had one of these. Ate up transmissions quicker than you could throw at them. Careful at putting too much money into them. where is the vibs coming from?? probably tires. Switch the tires from front to back and see if that makes a diff.
