I have noticed that when going through the gears the clutch seems to race to the point of shifting to the next gear regardless of the speed. Given the mileage, I believe that I may need to replace the clutch. Exactly what part needs replacing?

I say you need a new clutch disk,a pressure plate, throwout bearing. Some times you can get the pressure plate resurfaced

You may also need

a pilot bearing, it would depend on the transmission you have.

you need to replace the clutch disc pressure plate thow out bearing and you neeed to have the fly wheel turned and only use toyota clutch partsthere more spendy but you wont have the problem you do with after market parts and there is no pilot bearing in the front wheel drive cars on toyotas
