71 olds cutless trans

i noticed a knocking sound comming from under the car as time went by it got louder now it sounds like a rod knock. i went under the car and found it wasn't commimg from the motor or the trans it's comming from the bellhousing. what could it be ?

the bell, the flywheel, or the whole trans?

I would be thinking loose torque converter bolt or loose flywheel. Those would be good things to start with.

Also could be a cracked flywheel or convertor cover hitting the flywheel. If the convertor bolts are not loose remove them push the convertor back and start the engine. If the noise is still there it's in the engine if not pull the trans and check the flywheel.
