changing oil wts.

my van has 72,000 miles on it and i've always used 10w40wt oil but actually the owners manual calls for 5w30. it absolutely uses not oil at all. would it be the wrong thing to do to change to 5w30wt now before this winter.? could that start it using some oil? you are probably thinking why change now!

5w30 will give your engine better cold start protection where most engine wear occurs. I doubt if you will notice any change in oil consumption.

You will also get better fuel economy but it may not be enough to notice.
