Did the 4wd work prior to the transmission repair? If it did the shift motor may have been bumped between positions and can't find home.Let me know and we can go from there.

Remove the shift motor and turn the transfer case one way or the other the entire travel.Take the shift motor(you may have to cut 1 wire)to the battery and turn the motor with jumper leads to match the transfer case position.Don't rotate either part to reassemble if it doesn't line up jumper the motor at the battery again until it does.Disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes reconnect it then attempt to shift into 4wd.Let me know what happens. You could call the trans shop and ask them to check it(at no charge) since it worked prior to the repair.
