Patch hole in exhaust system
undefinedundefined
Hi!
I have a hole in my exhaust system. The part, an upper catalytic converter, is quite expensive to replace. Is there a fabulous product that can cover and seal the hole and withstand the heat? The hole is about .5" in diameter. I tried an automotive liquid steel thing and the heat burned it right off. Have heard about some $15 stuff that will work, but I really wanted to ask you all.
Thank you!

I would suggest the proper repair, replace the convertor. If the vehicle has less than 8yrs or 80k miles it should be free at the dealer provided it was not caused by abuse or an accident.

Thank you!
The car is 15 years old and the part is over $400. No, I do not want to buy a new car. "Buy a new car" is all I hear. Will keep putting money into this one. So, do you know of a product?
Thank you!

I did not tell you to buy a new car.I also don't know of any magical convertor in a can either. In most states with inspection patching the exhaust in that fashion is illegal.

illegal and unadvised...
...it's not a safe practice and patching OR welding any hole in any manner anywhere in the exhaust is prohibited in the stat of VA.
have you tried getting an estimate from a few exhaust specialty shops? they can often replace for less than the dealer cost of the part. if not...bite the bullet and do it right.
