well you can get a mechanics stethascope and check for for ware the noise is comming from or bring it to a shop and have them locate it for you could posibly be spark knock caused by a bad EGR but that is just a guess

That is not a complete vin number so get it off the truck in the dash area drivers side looking through the windshield. It will be 17 characters long.

There were no warranty repairs made to the engine of the truck after 36k I can't say if any repairs were made. The truck came from Morris Moore Chevrolet in Silsbee Tx.There are no known service bulletins listed for your concern. At this point make sure the cooling system is full and the fan is working properly.Check the egr system as said before and check or replace the fuel filter and get back to us.

Davo,
Is it possible the timing is out on his Silverado? I've heard some gosh awful clatter from an engine running with too much timing advance. Checking engine codes might indicate a malfunction.

Ignition timing is not controlled by rotating the distributor on his truck.Incorrect ignition timing will cause spark knock and is almost always caused by someone turning a distributor trying to fix something else not caused by timing. If a distributor is never moved from the factory setting it will never change without a mechanical failure of some kind. This on electronic ignition engines not point type but that's for another time.

the weld had broke loose.cost 15.00 to fix .someone had said thats what it
could be on a previous post but i did not follow up.truck running smooth.
