Timing Belt

I am following the maintenance manual for my 2000 Mazda Protege to replace the timing belt. The service guy recommends that I replace water pump at the same time??? 90,000 miles. Is this a good idea???

I'm not sure on that engine on on my Miata it would be pointless to do the timing belt and not change the water pump. You're right there anyway (labor wise) so it's just the price of the pump. Pretty cheap peace of mind.

Not familiar with this specific vehicle but I can say that in almost all cases it's worth changing the H2O pump when changing the timing belt

There may be some engines it's not but they are few and far between
