Need Instructions for Shift Lever Removal of 1990 GMC truck

My husband has had me looking all over the internet for instructions on removing the shift lever in a 1990 GMC 2500 series transmission. I'm not too technical on what that even is but if anyone could post a reply for it or a site to go to that would have the instructions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If it's an auto trans a small pin is driven out of the shift tube on the column if a manual trans the boot must be removed inside the cab and usually either 2 bolts hold it in or a cap screws down on the trans that needs removed.

Thanks so much for the help. Husband said that a pin holding some "doohickey" had slid sideways and was preventing the "thingee" from popping out as it should. He used technical terms but I couldn't understand what he said let alone type the correct spelling. But all is weel now and he's moving along getting it fixed!!!
