clunking on acceleration and stopping???

clunking on acceleration and stopping???

I have a '99 Pontiac Sunfire. If you sit in the passenger seat in the front, there is a clunking noise that can be heard coming from below the floor boards when the car accelerates. The noise disappears as you drive BUT reappears as you apply the brakes. Is something coming loose? What should I look for?

If the noise isn't coming from the seat perhaps it is coming from the cradle bolts.Check them for tightness.

Are the cradle bolts located underneath the car? The noise we hear is definitely coming from outside of the passenger compartment underneath the car. Thanks for any help.

Yes the cradle holds the engine tranmission assembly in the car.You may also want to check for bad sway bar end links while you are under there.
