Friend took their car to Jiffy Lube (not my perferred method) to have the oil changed, two weeks ago.
Now the oil light comes on. They have checked the oil level and it is good.

Possible causes?
1. Bad sender
2. Bad oil pump
3. Clogged screen
4. clogged oil filter
5. loose wire

Did I miss anything? If Jiffy Lube doesn't do anything for them, I may be looking at this thing so any help would be appreciated.

What should the oil pressure be on this car? Sorry I don't know what size engine it has, but I am sure it is the most common for this year and make.

Oil sender most likely cause followed by bad bearings(if hi mileage car)overheating thinning the oil.What engine is in the beast and I will quote pressure specs.

I'm going to guess it has the 3.1L six in it. The only other engine is the 2.4L four.

Like I said, I haven't even look under the hood yet so I'm not sure of the engine.

However, if you have both pressures handy.....???????

Yes, I was wrong!!!! It has the 4 banger in it, 2.4L.

He says, "His wife took it back to Jiffy Lube and they couldn't find anything wrong. However, the light is now off." Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

We will wait and see.

If you have the pressure handy on the 2.4L, let me know. I may go over and check it just to be sure.

10 psi @ 900 rpm min and 30 psi @ 3000 rpm min for a 2.4 liter.

one other thing that might have happened
the oil pump regulator valve stuck open
I believe theres a TSB on this problem on the quad 4 engine

Hello all. The problem is with a 1992 Subaru Loyale 4wd wagon. It has a 1.8L engine, single point fuel injection. It has approximately 179K miles. Over the past end on the summer up to now I have been getting a check engine light on startup. Didn't seem to be a big deal at the time as it didn't seem to cause any driveability problems. But, with the colder weather coming it now will not stay running, when cold, unless I keep reving the engine. Once it warms up a bit it will run as it always has. As far as the CEL (check engine light) goes, I know that the code will display if you pull out the kick panel under the drivers side. So, I checked it out and it read a egr temp. sensor or circuit problem. THis would be alright, but, as it turns out this car is a Federal Emissions car and not a California Emissions car so it should not have this code stored. The next step was to take it to a reputable Subaru dealer in the area and have it checked out there. Well they pretty much came up with the same results that I did with the egr thing. There was one tech. that had been there for over 28 years and he had never seen anything like this either! The only thing that they could suggest was to pick up another ECU and swap it out and see if the code goes away. Its possible that this car may not have the original ECU in it I guess. So this is where I am at right now, I am really no closer to diagnosing this problem now than where I was a couple of months ago. One other note was that a local mechanic suggested that I remove and clean the egr valve. I went ahead and did that and also checked the associated switches just to be safe and it didn't seem to make any difference. It acts to me just like the old carburated cars when the automatlc choke isn't working right, like it wasn't getting a rich enough mixture on startup. Well I've rambled on enough, but, I wanted to give you as much info. as I could to see if you could come up with anything because I frankly have run out of options. Coolant Disappearing Act

My 89 Bronco II w/a 2.9L and a 7.8qt capacity cooling system was loosing coolant at a rate of about 1 gallon/ 1 hr of driving with no apparent leaks. I assumed the coolant was being burnt out the exhaust. The oil was not the typical beige foamy color of a water contaminated oil in the crankcase. I changed it regardless as it was due. The engine while running doesn't push bubbles up through the radiator neck either as a bad headgasket would typically do. My daughter borrowed the car and added a full 11oz of Bar's Radiator Stop Leak product, however I'm not getting heat in the heater core now, and the core is only about a month old. The leaking has abated though. The bottle says to use 1/2 on a 4 CYL, she used the whole thing. It also doesn't require removal of the thermostat in the instructions. I read in the instructions not to pack pellets in the radiator.... This is rather ambiguous. It says you may disolve the pellets if necessary... How is this done? I'm thinking of flushing the product, if I use a cleaner/flush agent, I think the leak will re-appear. I would like your recommendations. I'm gonna sell it ASAP so I don't really want to spend $800 in repairs to sell for $1,000 later. :(Read More
