2000 Explorer turning noises

The vehicle is making a kind of scrapiong or grinding noise every time you turn the wheel. It doesnt matter which way you turn it, how far you turn or if you are moving or not. It makes the noise sitting still as long as you turn the wheels. What could the noise possibly be? thanks for the help

Start by checking the power steering fluid level. Refer to your owner's manual for checking it and which kind of fluid to add if necessary.

It sounds like it has a dry joint, most likely a ball joint. Have someone operate the steering wheel, making sure the truck is in park, lay under the front and put your hand on each joint and piece of linkage as the driver turns the wheel back and forth. When you touch the right one, you will feel the chatter/vibration in the joint.
