2000 Pontiac Sunfire Cranks but won't start

I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, 2.2L, that ran fine on Sunday night but wouldn't start on Monday morning.

~ I've checked for spark and it has spark
~ I can hear the fuel pump whirring when the ignition is switched on
~ I have replaced the fuel filter

After changing the fuel filter I cranked the engine quite a bit. I then removed the fuel filter and it had about a tablespoon of fuel in it.

The engine cranks normally...I don't suspect any compression issues. The fuel pump cost $200+ so I don't want to guess wrong.

Any advice is appreciated.

If you are sure you hear the pump are you sure there is gas in the tank?I would pour a couple gallon of gas in the tank unless you very recently filled the tank.Don't go by the gas guage it may be faulty.
