'92 Explorer running cool
I have a 1992 Ford Explorer with 133k miles on it. This summer I had the thermostat replaced (old one did not function correctly) and the cooling system flushed along with some new valve cover gaskets to mend some oil leaks.
The temperature here (New Hampshire) has now dropped below freezing and I am finding that the engine does not warm up -- the temperature needle stays just under the low end of "normal" and pushes up into normal if I drive a little harder. I have a hard time believing that the new thermostat is already bad.
Any guidance on this situation would surely be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you're getting very little or no heat from the heater, its likely the thermostat is bad. Otherwise, if the inside of your Explorer is heating up fine, you may have a bad gauge or sending unit problem. I'm not sure about an Explorer, but most of the time the thermostat is a very easy thing to change and it and the gasket doesn't cost much.
