i have 2 cars a 93 sable with a 3.8 engine and a 95 taurus with a 3.8 engine. How do I find out if I can switch the trannys from one to another?

Call a automotive recycler aka junkyard they have a Hollander manual which lists interchange information.

And BTW, the tranny in that vintage of Sable and Taurus is a first class P.O.S., unless it's been overhauled. The 3.8 engine isn't far behind on the list of bad FoMoCo engineering. Might want to consider that before you expend the time and $ in the tranny swap.

Measure it with a micrometer; cut it with an ax.
