Rust cover up.

Rust cover up.
I have a jeep from a dealership. It is a 99 jeep wrangler. I wanted it for so long, then when I took a closer look, its BUBBLED. I can tell there was rust, as it was only painted over and already coming off. Not only that but on the driver side I saw they covered up my JEEP logo . Anyways onto the question:
I have a magazine called Essentials : For Jeep Vehicles. This is the 2004 holiday edition so it is the current one. There is a product called POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating. It is on page 194 middle section.
It looks like I need three different products to use, a cleaner, a metal ready, and the preventive coating. But will this realy stop the rust? I am curiuos because I thought the only way to stop it would be to take a drill with a sand bit and sand it till its shiny metal again and repaint. Is that the only way or how well does this chemical coatings work?

If the metal is pitted, your method is best. However, between the bare shiny metal and the paint, you need to add what is called a conversion coating. This can be purchased at most auto parts stores and is generically called iron phosphate. This provides an inert bond between the bare metal and the paint, and will help to retard future rust where applied. The ad you saw will not get rid of rust pits. Sanding, grinding, or metal replacement are the only real solutions.
If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.

POR15 does work. It will not get rid of pits. It will paint over rust and prevent it from recurring. However, I don't think you can use it where it is exposed to sunlight. Check their site, as I'm sure there are ways to paint over it.
