Idle Problem

hey guys,

I have just started having a problem with my 98 cavalier. Sll of the sudden the check engine light has come on and the engine is reving by itself with the car in park. it is like some one is pressing and releasing the gas. I was thinking it was a vacuum problem but I just wanted to check with you guys because there is no where for me to get the diagnotics done on xmas.

Merry Cristmas to everyone.

its possible it may have a vacum leak wich could cause high idle but it is very likely that it could be a sensor such as the tps going bad causing the idle to go up and down.
there isnt a whole lot you can do except maybe check for vacum leaks until you can get it somewhere to have the codes read.

my friend just sugested a bad fuel filter or pump might also be the cause. I was also leaning towards a blocked up cat converter. I will check the codes and see.
