92 Lumina fuel regulator

92 Lumina 3.1 v6 automatic 180,000 miles

My parents car started using alot of gas, smoking, and stinking like gas. So changed fuel regulator. Had to change oil because it had gas in it. It ran better for a few days. Then it started all over again. Smoking, smelling like gas. So changed the regulator again. It ran good for about 10 miles then started acting up again. I'm going to check compression. Where do I go from here?

A guess oxygen sensor or fuel pump or injectors. Fuel pump and alternator tend to go on 92 Lumina.
