Transmission for 95 Grand Am

I've got a 3.1 liter V6 95 Grand Am automatic that just lost the reverse gear and when you drive it you can only get up to about 40mph until it slips out of driv e and the you have to put it in neutral until 30mph then you can put it back in dive and do the same thing can anyone tell me if I start to look somewhere or is this a major problem?

Sounds like the reaction sun shell may be bad.Large job requires trans removal and disassembly to clean all the metal out.Out of reach for many doit yourselfers but with a good manual, trans jack and average to good mechanical skill who knows.
